JPG, PNG, or WebP, one file at a time
Different image formats trade off quality, file size, and compatibility differently. PNG preserves transparency and gives lossless detail, JPG produces smaller files for photographs but does not support transparency, and WebP often gives the smallest file size of the three while still supporting transparency, though older software sometimes lacks support for it.
Upload an image, choose the format you want to convert to, and if converting to JPG or WebP, adjust the quality slider to balance file size against visual detail. Click Convert and the tool re-encodes your image locally using the browser's canvas engine, ready to download in the new format.
This is commonly used to convert a PNG screenshot into a smaller JPG for emailing, to turn a photo into WebP for faster website loading, or to convert a WebP image received from somewhere into a JPG or PNG that more programs can open.
Will converting to JPG lose transparency?+
Yes, JPG does not support transparency. Any transparent areas are filled with white during conversion.
Which format gives the smallest file size?+
WebP usually produces the smallest file size at a similar quality level, followed by JPG, with PNG typically being the largest for photographs.
Is my image uploaded to a server?+
No. The conversion happens locally in your browser using the canvas API. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Does my browser support WebP?+
Nearly all modern browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari, support both creating and viewing WebP images.
