Unit Converter
Convert length, weight, volume, area, speed, and temperature between common units. Calculated instantly in your browser.
This tool converts a value from one measurement unit to another within the same category, such as converting kilometers to miles, kilograms to pounds, or Celsius to Fahrenheit. All conversions are calculated using standard, widely accepted conversion factors, and the calculation happens instantly in your browser as you type, with no need to click a separate convert button.
Start by choosing a category from the dropdown: Length, Weight/Mass, Volume, Area, Speed, or Temperature. Each category shows a relevant set of units in the "From" and "To" dropdowns below it. Enter a number in the input field, and the converted result appears immediately to the right. Use the swap button to quickly reverse the direction of the conversion, which is handy when you want to see the same pair of units the other way around.
Most categories, like Length, Weight, Volume, Area, and Speed, work by converting your input into a common base unit (such as meters for length, or kilograms for weight) and then converting that base value into your chosen output unit, which is the standard method used in most conversion references and textbooks. Temperature is handled differently since Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin scales don't share a simple multiplication factor. Instead, the tool uses the standard temperature conversion formulas for each pair of scales.
This tool is useful for everyday tasks like converting a recipe's measurements between metric and imperial units, checking a weather forecast given in a different temperature scale, converting a distance for travel planning, or working out weight and volume conversions for shipping, cooking, or construction. Because everything runs locally, results appear instantly with no loading delay, even when adjusting values repeatedly.
How accurate are the conversions?+
Conversions use standard, internationally recognized conversion factors and are accurate to six decimal places, which is more than sufficient for everyday, cooking, travel, and most professional uses.
Why is temperature handled differently from other categories?+
Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin use different starting points (zero points) and step sizes, so converting between them requires a formula rather than a simple multiplication factor used for units like length or weight.
Can I convert between categories, like length to weight?+
No, conversions only work within the same category since units from different categories, such as meters and kilograms, measure fundamentally different things and cannot be meaningfully converted between each other.
Does this tool save my previous conversions?+
No, nothing is saved. Each time you open the page it starts fresh, and no conversion data is sent to or stored on a server.
