Text Encryption & Decryption

Encrypt or decrypt text using classic ciphers, Caesar, Vigenère, or XOR with Base64 output. Runs entirely in your browser.

How It Works

This tool applies classic, well-known ciphers to text for learning, puzzles, or lightweight obfuscation. It is not intended for protecting genuinely sensitive information, since these ciphers are centuries-old techniques designed to be understood, not to withstand serious cryptographic attacks.

The Caesar cipher shifts each letter forward or backward in the alphabet by a fixed number of positions. The Vigenère cipher uses a keyword to apply a different shift to each letter, making it stronger than a simple Caesar shift. The XOR option combines your text with a passphrase byte by byte and encodes the result as Base64 text, so it can be safely copied and pasted.

Choose a cipher, choose Encrypt or Decrypt, provide the shift number or key the cipher needs, and click Run. This is useful for classroom demonstrations of classic cryptography, simple puzzles and games, or casually obscuring text that doesn't need real security.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this safe for sensitive information like passwords?+

No. These are classic, historical ciphers meant for learning and casual use, not modern cryptography. Use a proper encryption tool for anything genuinely sensitive.

What is the difference between Caesar and Vigenère?+

Caesar shifts every letter by the same fixed amount, while Vigenère uses a keyword to vary the shift letter by letter, making patterns harder to spot.

Why does XOR output look like random text?+

XOR combines your text with a key at the byte level, then the result is encoded as Base64 so it can be represented as safe, printable text.

Is my text sent to a server?+

No. All ciphers run entirely in your browser using JavaScript.
