CSS Minifier & Beautifier

Clean up messy CSS or shrink it down for production, entirely in your browser.

How It Works

CSS written for readability during development, with generous whitespace, comments, and line breaks, is often larger than it needs to be once it reaches a live website. Minifying removes comments, extra whitespace, and unnecessary characters to reduce file size, which can speed up page load slightly, especially across many stylesheet requests.

Paste your CSS into the input box, then click Beautify to reformat it with consistent indentation and line breaks for easier reading, or click Minify to compress it down to the smallest possible size. Choose 2-space or 4-space indentation for the beautified output to match your preferred style.

This is useful for cleaning up CSS that was pasted from somewhere without formatting, shrinking a stylesheet before deploying a website, or making a minified third-party stylesheet readable enough to understand and debug.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does minifying change how my CSS behaves?+

No, minifying only removes whitespace, comments, and unnecessary characters. The visual result of the stylesheet stays exactly the same.

Are comments preserved when beautifying?+

No, comments are stripped out during both minifying and beautifying in this tool, to keep the logic simple and predictable.

Is my CSS uploaded to a server?+

No. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Can I paste an entire stylesheet at once?+

Yes, paste as much CSS as you like, there is no practical size limit for typical stylesheets.
