Base64 Encoder / Decoder
Encode text to Base64, or decode a Base64 string back to plain text. Runs entirely in your browser.
Base64 is a way of representing binary or text data using only 64 printable characters (letters, digits, plus a couple of symbols). It's commonly used to safely embed data inside places that only expect plain text, such as email attachments, image data URLs, JSON payloads, or authentication tokens. This tool converts text to and from Base64 using your browser's own encoding functions, so nothing you type is sent to a server.
Paste your text into the box and click "Encode" to turn it into a Base64 string, or paste an existing Base64 string and click "Decode" to see the original text it represents. If the input isn't valid Base64, the tool will let you know rather than producing garbled output. The result can be copied to your clipboard with a single click.
What is Base64 used for?+
It's commonly used to embed binary data (like images) inside text formats, to encode authentication tokens, and to safely transmit data through systems that only handle plain text.
Is Base64 encryption?+
No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can decode it back to the original text. It doesn't provide any security or privacy on its own.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?+
No. Encoding and decoding both happen locally in your browser using built-in JavaScript functions.
Why does decoding sometimes fail?+
This usually means the text you pasted isn't valid Base64 — for example, it contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet or has an incorrect length.
