Timestamp Converter

Convert a Unix timestamp into a readable date, or a date into a Unix timestamp.

How It Works

A Unix timestamp counts the number of seconds, or sometimes milliseconds, that have passed since January 1st, 1970. It is used throughout programming as a compact, timezone-independent way to represent a point in time.

To convert a timestamp into a date, paste the number into the first box, choose whether it is in seconds or milliseconds, and click Convert. The result shows the equivalent date and time in your local timezone, in UTC, and in ISO 8601 format. To go the other direction, pick a date and time in the second section and click Convert to get the matching Unix timestamp in both seconds and milliseconds.

This is useful for debugging a timestamp found in a database record or API response, converting a specific date into a timestamp for use in code or a query, or quickly checking what the current Unix timestamp is.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if a timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?+

A 10-digit number is typically seconds, while a 13-digit number is typically milliseconds. If your result shows a date far in the future or the distant past, try switching units.

Does this account for my timezone?+

Yes, the local time result reflects your device's current timezone setting, while the UTC result is timezone-independent.

Is this data sent to a server?+

No. All conversion happens locally in your browser.

What is the current Unix timestamp?+

Click the 'Use Current Time' button to instantly fill in the current Unix timestamp in seconds.
