JavaScript Minifier & Beautifier

Clean up messy JavaScript or shrink it down, safely handling strings and comments. Runs entirely in your browser.

How It Works

JavaScript written for readability, with generous spacing, line breaks, and comments, is often larger than needed once deployed to a live website. Minifying strips out comments and unnecessary whitespace to reduce file size. This tool carefully scans your code first so that whitespace inside strings, template literals, and comments is never touched, only structural whitespace between actual code tokens is removed.

Paste your JavaScript into the input box, then click Beautify to reformat it with consistent indentation and line breaks, or click Minify to compress it down. Choose 2-space or 4-space indentation for the beautified output.

This is useful for cleaning up JavaScript pasted without formatting, shrinking a script before deploying it, or making a minified third-party script readable enough to understand and debug. Because this is a lightweight, whitespace-based tool rather than a full code parser, always test minified output before relying on it in production.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this as thorough as tools like Terser?+

No, this is a lightweight minifier that removes comments and unnecessary whitespace. It does not rename variables or perform advanced code optimizations the way a full-scale build tool does.

Will this break my strings or comments?+

No, the tool scans your code first to identify strings, template literals, and comments, and treats their contents as off-limits during minifying and beautifying.

Are comments preserved when beautifying?+

No, comments are removed during both minifying and beautifying in this tool, to keep the underlying logic simple and predictable.

Is my code uploaded to a server?+

No. All processing happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent anywhere.
