URL Encoder & Decoder
Encode text for safe use inside a URL, or decode a URL-encoded string back to plain text.
URLs can only safely contain a limited set of characters, so spaces, symbols, and special characters need to be converted into a percent-encoded format before they can be used inside a link or query string. Encoding turns a space into %20, an ampersand into %26, and so on, while decoding reverses the process back into readable text.
Type or paste your text into the box, then click Encode to convert plain text into a URL-safe string, or click Decode to convert an already-encoded string back into plain text. Click Copy to copy the result to your clipboard.
This is commonly used when building a query string by hand, debugging a link that contains unexpected characters, or reading a URL parameter that has been percent-encoded and is hard to understand at a glance.
What characters get encoded?+
Spaces, ampersands, question marks, slashes, and most symbols outside letters, numbers, and a few safe characters are converted to their percent-encoded equivalent.
What happens if I decode invalid text?+
If the text contains a malformed percent sequence, the tool shows an error instead of guessing at the result.
Is this the same as Base64 encoding?+
No, URL encoding and Base64 encoding are different formats used for different purposes. This tool handles URL, or percent, encoding specifically.
Is my text sent to a server?+
No. Encoding and decoding both happen locally in your browser using built-in JavaScript functions.
