UUID / GUID Generator

Generate one or more version 4 UUIDs instantly, using your browser's secure random number generator.

How It Works

A UUID, or universally unique identifier, also called a GUID, is a 128-bit value used to uniquely identify records, sessions, or resources without needing a central authority to hand out IDs. Version 4 UUIDs, which this tool generates, are built from random data, making collisions between two generated UUIDs astronomically unlikely.

Choose how many UUIDs you need, toggle whether to remove the dashes or make the letters uppercase, and click Generate. Each UUID is created using your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, then displayed in a list ready to copy.

This is commonly used to generate a unique ID for a new database record during development, create placeholder session tokens or API keys for testing, or produce unique filenames that won't collide with existing files.

Frequently Asked Questions
How unique is a version 4 UUID?+

The chance of two version 4 UUIDs colliding is so small that it is not a practical concern, even when generating billions of them.

What is the difference between a UUID and a GUID?+

They refer to the same concept, UUID is the term used in most technical standards, while GUID is Microsoft's name for essentially the same thing.

Can I generate UUIDs without dashes?+

Yes, enable the No Dashes option to get a plain 32-character string instead of the standard dashed format.

Is anything sent to a server?+

No. Every UUID is generated locally in your browser.
