Hash Generator
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hashes from any text, instantly and entirely in your browser.
A hash function takes any input text and produces a fixed-length string of characters that acts like a fingerprint for that exact input. Even a single character change in the input produces a completely different hash, which makes hashes useful for verifying that a file or piece of text has not been altered.
Type or paste any text into the box and click Generate Hashes. The tool instantly computes the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 hash of that exact text using your browser's own cryptographic functions, then displays each one with a Copy button.
This is commonly used to verify a downloaded file's checksum against a published hash, generate a quick reference hash for a password or API key during development, or check whether two pieces of text are byte-for-byte identical by comparing their hashes instead of the full text.
Is MD5 still safe to use?+
MD5 is fast to compute but is no longer considered secure for protecting passwords or sensitive data, since collisions have been found. SHA-256 or SHA-512 are recommended for anything security-sensitive.
Why do I get a different hash for the same word with different capitalization?+
Hash functions are case-sensitive and treat any change, including capitalization, as a completely different input, producing a completely different hash.
Is my text sent to a server?+
No. All hashing happens locally in your browser using built-in cryptographic functions. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Can I hash a file instead of text?+
This tool currently hashes typed or pasted text only, not uploaded files.
